BULGARIA ADOPTION

 

UPDATE: New Pilot Program for children with special needs. Will identify older children, sibling groups, and children with physical challenges and recruit prospective adoptive families. New children added each month.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Working since 1998 with Bulgarian Charity placing children for 17 years. Following moratorium on adoptions, AIAA reopened in 2009.

CHILDREN BEING REFERRED:

Toddlers 18 mos+, early school age, older children, and sibling groups to 15 years. For younger children, applicants should be open up to 5 years. Generally relinquished by birth parents and living in small childcare institutions or foster care. Children of Roma, Turkish, or Bulgarian ancestry with dark hair, eyes, and fair to olive complexion. Two staff psychologists with Bulgarian Charity.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Married couple or single female applicants;

  2. Childless or with birth or adopted children;

  3. Age flexible, appropriate for birth child. Exceptions considered for special needs At least 15 years difference between prospective adoptive parent(s) and child;

  4. Four Post Placement Reports, medical, and pictures of child and family by Caseworker first two years.

PROCESS:

See “GETTING STARTED WITH AIAA” on web site. Michigan applicants, AIAA completes Home Study and Post Adoption Services. Out of State, see “CHOOSING OUT OF STATE LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDER” on web site.

Completed Dossier along with CIS approval forwarded to Charity for Registration with Ministry of Justice (MOJ). Adoption Council match children. Applicants requesting older children (7+), siblings, or special needs matched shorter period of time. Children 5- could wait for 3+ years. Final Approval by MOJ.

Charity obtains Child Referral and video. Two trips required , 7 business days. First 5 visiting child in childcare center and signing Agreement. Couples, both prospective adoptive parents travel this trip. Final Approval by MOJ, filing Sofia City Court for Finalization. Second trip at least one parent to escort child. Automatic US Citizenship upon arrival in US.

BULGARIAN OVERSEAS FEES: Equivalent of 6,000 Euros (EUR). Payment schedule Overseas fees, US dollars (USD) amount EUR equivalent at time of each payment:

1,000 EUR Due at time of Dossier Submission
2,000 EUR Due at Child Referral Acceptance
3,000 EUR Due at Court Hearing Competition

Total Overseas Fees: 6,500 EURS
