Whether you are using AIAA as placement
agency or working with out of state
placement agency, home study process is the
same. Purpose of home study is twofold.
First, gathering information to write home
study for Michigan requirements, overseas
agency, out of state placement agency, Hague
Convention (country specific) and US
government immigration (USCIS). Second, and
most importantly, home study is educational
process designed to fully prepare your
family for all aspects of adoption
experience and raise understanding of issues
and challenges inherent in international
adoption that you may have not have
considered.
PROCESS:

AIAA sends formal application packet;

Applicant returns completed packet with
home study fee;

Assignment of AIAA social worker;

Minimum of three visits, at least one of
which will be in your home;

Sixteen hours of parent training in
addition to home study visits;

Home study draft will be sent for your
approval;

Final approval of caseworker’s
supervisor.
When your home study is completed, if you
are working with AIAA for placement, Program
Administrator for country chosen will guide
you through the process for USCIS
preapproval and the paperwork required to
receive referral. If you are working with an
out of state placement agency, copy of your
home study will be sent to agency.
