HUNGARY
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
NEW PROGRAM. Coordinator is
Hungarian/Canadian citizen with
more than 20 plus years
experience in international
adoptions from Hungary.

CHILDREN BEING PLACED:
Children will basically be 6
years and older, sibling groups
(which may contain younger
children), and children under 6
with specific medical issues
(heart conditions, orthopedic,
sight, hearing, etc). Living in
foster homes or small childcare
facilities.
Caucasian of
Roma
and Hungarian ancestry and most
have dark hair, dark eyes, and
fair to olive complexion.
Private English speaking
pediatrician completes referral
physical examination. Estimated
wait for referral from dossier
approval in Hungary is
approximately one (1) year but
could be shorter for older
children and those with special
needs.

PROGRAM
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
-
Married couples or single female
applicant of good character, with a
stable, nurturing marriage (where
applicable), and a commitment to instill
in their child a knowledge and pride in
country and culture of Hungary;
-
Applicants may be childless or with
birth or adopted children;
-
Age of adoptive applicant(s):
a. Children, up to one (1)
year-at least one (1) parent must be
forty-five (45) or younger;
b. Children, two (2) and
older-no more than forty-five years
difference between applicant(s) and
child;
Exceptions may be considered for couples
where one (1) parent is younger than
forty-five (45) years or for placement
of older school age children or those
with special needs. However, under both
circumstances, age should be appropriate
for birth children for both parents.

Medical for adopting parent(s) must
reflect results of HIV, Hep B and VD
testing.

PROCESS:
To begin the
process, see
“GETTING
STARTED WITH AIAA” on the
web site. If you live in Michigan,
AIAA will complete home study and post
placement supervision. Out of State
applicants, see “CHOOSING
OUT OF STATE
LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDER”
on web site.
With AIAA’s
assistance, prospective adoptive parent(s)
will prepare a dossier to be submitted along
with USCIS approval, to Central Adoption
Committee (CAC) to receive an official child
referral. However, approved home study and
supporting documentation can be used to
begin process for registration with
Hungarian officials while waiting CIS
approval. Specific registration number is
issued.
Coordinator
will receive child referral information,
pictures, background information, a medical
completed by private doctor, and
developmental information that are made
available. Your local service caseworker
will present child referral to your family.
Following
acceptance of referral, prospective adoptive
parent(s) will travel within about two weeks
to Hungary to see the child and complete the
adoption process:
-
Prospective adoptive parent(s) travel to
province where child resides and spend
five (5) to seven (7) hours a day
visiting child in foster home or
childcare facility for six (6) to
seven (7) days;
-
Adoptive parent(s) decide as whether to
proceed with adoption process;
-
Prospective adoptive parent(s) are
expected to spend total of thirty (30)
days with child before completion of
adoption. Arrangements can be made to
spend remaining three (3) weeks in
Budapest with child;
-
If necessary, one (1) parent can leave
Hungary after first week but must return
WHEN THE THIRTY (30) DAYS EXPIRES, so
that both parents can travel back to the
province to sign adoption agreements;
-
Estimated time in country for at least
one (1) parent is approximately
thirty-five (35) days.
Children
receive automatic citizenship following
finalization of adoption in US. However,
parent should apply for Certificate of
Citizenship.

PLEASE NOTE: AIAA Program Fee is due at
completion of dossier. Overseas Fees and
AIAA Processing Fee is due upon acceptance
of child referral. These amounts do not
include home study/post placement services,
international airfares, US Embassy and visa
fees, and internal travel, accommodations,
and living expenses in Hungary.
Fees above reflect current costs for adopting a child from Hungary.
However, fees are subject to change at any
time.
FEES ARE PAID WHEN SERVICES ARE RENDERED AND, THEREFORE, THE
FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. PARTIAL REFUNDS
WILL BE MADE FOR SERVICES NOT COMPLETED,
DEPENDING ON THE STAGE OF THE ADOPTION
PROCESS.
