PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Couples
married at least four years and minimum
age of 30 years of age for both parents;

Single
female applicants must be between 35 and
55 years of age;

Age range
must be acceptable, one to 3 years, 3-5
years, 5-7, 8+;

Without
children must be open to either sex;
-
With a
child or children of one sex will only
be referred a child of the opposite sex;
-
Applicants
with children of both sexes MAY NOT
adopt from Nepal;
-
Adopted
child must be the youngest child in the
family;
-
In good
physical and mental health with no
condition and not on medication for
depression or anxiety;

Stable
employment history;

of at least $30,000.00 a year;

AIAA GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
PROCESS:
Nepal adoptions are not completed adoptions
in the country of origin. The prospective
adoptive parent(s) are appointed guardian(s)
and adoption completed in county of adoptive
parent(s)’ residence.
AIAA Nepal
Program Administrator shall assist the
family in completing a dossier. When
completed it is sent to AIAA Legal
Representative in Nepal who will present it
to Ministry of Women, Children and Social
Welfare for review and approval. Dossier is
then submitted to Central Child Welfare
Board where child is assigned.
The specific child referral
is sent to AIAA for presentation through
local home study agency’s caseworker. Upon
acceptance, legal processing begins in
Nepal. This takes approximately 3-5 months.
Both parents travel to Nepal to complete the
adoption and obtain child’s visa at the
American Embassy in Kathmandu. Expected
duration of trip is approximately 2-3 weeks.
