A Single Square
Picture
By Katy
Robinson
This book
will grab you from the first page to
the last. Katy Robinson is a
journalist by trade who weaves a story
that takes the reader inside her
emotional roller coaster ride as she
searches for her Korean birth family.
Her story of growing up in Seoul,
being adopted by an American family at
the age of seven and her subsequent
return to Korea to be reunited with
her birth family is a fascinating
read. Through her personal journey the
reader is offered an opportunity to
understand the issues that grip many
adult adoptees who try to find their
place in the world through the search
process. This alone would make A
Single Square Picture worthwhile.
But in addition, the author gives the
reader a fascinating view inside
Korean culture and the conflicts that
arise for someone of Korean heritage
who is a stranger to the culture.
This book
is the perfect summer read. Take it to
the beach, enjoy the story and in the
process be prepared to look inside the
complex world of a young woman’s
struggle to integrate both her Korean
and American cultures. Katy Robinson
gives us confidence that this task can
truly be accomplished. Here’s hoping
that she decides to write a sequel to
this fabulous book!
